We’ve taken a look at the most popular places for Singaporeans to travel to in 2016. To help you stay on top of the hottest destinations this year, we analysed flight searches to reveal the top 10 destinations in and outside Asia, based on the highest surges in demand. If you’re in search of the unknown, or have yet to decide on where to head to in 2016, try one of these emerging destinations.
While the rankings are dominated by destinations in Japan, the Land of the rising Sun, the runners up show some surprising trends. After Osaka, India’s bustling east coast hub Chennai, comes in close second, followed by nearby favourite tourist spot, George Town, on the Malaysian island of Penang. A roundup of the top five trending destinations includes the dynamic capital Tokyo, along with Singapore’s cosmopolitan neighbour to the north, Kuala Lumpur, which also saw an impressive increase in interest compared to last year.
For destinations outside Asia, Auckland, New Zealand tops the list, with interest in this city rising dramatically. Australia is a perennial favourite, showing an increase in flight searches in three Australian cities, with more Singapore travellers than ever, looking at visiting Melbourne, Perth or Sydney. European cities London and Rome also logged an increase in flight searches, and thus, will welcome more Singapore travellers in 2016.
